Publisher’s cloth, gold lettering and decoration stamped on front cover and spine, red edges.

The cover features a striking gilt-stamped emblem, showing a Greek sphinx and a winged female figure on either side of a globe atop a classical pedestal. The woman holds a lit oil lamp, symbolizing enlightenment, while the sphinx embodies wisdom and mystery. Encircled by the gold inscription “Bibliothèque des Merveilles”, this design by Hachette et Cie beautifully unites mythological grace and scientific symbolism.

Slight discoloration to the covers, light foxing and stains to a few pages, otherwise in very good condition.
