19th Century Gimballed Marine Compass

C1850 Large tabletop marine compass mounted on gimbals within a binnacle to keep it level on uneven surfaces within a ship. The serial number engraved on the rim suggests this compass was made by John Bliss & Co. which were popularly used in the mid 19th century.
